Experimental Study on Creep Behavior of Hydrate-bearing Sediments

Abstract：Natural gas hydrate is believed to be a promising alternative for traditional fossil energies. To date, mechanical properties of hydrate-bearing sediments have been numerously investigated with both experiments and simulations, but the long-term creep behavior is still limitedly known. This paper aims to obtain the strain-stress response in vertical direction, confined modulus and horizontal stresses in hydrate-bearing sediments under the zero-horizontal-displacement condition with experimental method. Results show the effects of hydrate saturation, vertical load and stress history on the creep behavior of hydrate-bearing sediments. This study is beneficial to the prediction of long-term deformation and soil-well interaction in the process of hydrate recovery.
